What is the crystalized sap-like substance on my peach tree?
we moved into a home 2 weeks ago with a fully productive peach tree and plum tree in the backyard. both trees have a boatload of fruit, the peaches are on the verge of ripening, the plums have already begun to ripen. both fruits have what seems to be a leak of sap, but it has become hard and crystallized and opaque. all of the plums with this leakage had a single maggot in them, so i'm assuming it's a sugar leak from where the maggot bore out a space for itself? i know we likely won't have a crop this year that we can eat, but should i expect the same thing in the peaches? also, we live in alabama, so is it possible that we'll get a second fruiting on the trees this year and be able to treat the problem then? either way, help me get my trees healthy and maggot free!!
