Have leftists ever come up with a moral justification for the estate tax?

My favorite Liberal rationalization for this is that inherited wealth is not "earned" so confiscating it promotes self-reliance. "I'm taking your money for myself, since you clearly didn't earn it." Apparently they're blind to the irony of this.
